West Devon Borough Council: dog rules

Council-wide dog rules, beaches and named places

We've only partly added this council's dog rules. Check the source for the full order.

Partly added

  • Pick up in all open-air public areas, including Dartmoor (not Forestry England land).
  • Dogs on a lead in car parks, cemeteries, churchyards, war memorials, enclosed ponds and water areas, nature reserves, and marked sports fields during organised sport. Part of Simmons Park in Tavistock also needs a lead.
  • Four dog exclusion areas, including Memorial Park in North Tawton and Jubilee Field in Chagford.
  • On open Dartmoor, dogs need to be under control (see the Countryside layer for nesting-season leads).

From the borough's dog order as reported in 2014; later renewals kept the pick-up rules.

Assistance dogs: most council dog orders and beach bans exempt assistance dogs, such as guide and hearing dogs. Check the source if you are unsure.
