South Gloucestershire Council: dog rules

Council-wide dog rules, beaches and named places

Rules added

  • Pick up after your dog on any open land the public can use, including commons and woodland, and show you can pick up if an officer asks. This order has been in place since 2019 and was renewed in April 2026 for three years.
  • The council asks that dogs are kept out of the fenced children's play areas it manages. This is a request, not an order.
  • Norman Scott Park, Patchway: no dogs, under a Patchway Town Council byelaw from 1985. Registered assistance dogs are exempt.
  • There is no limit on how many dogs one person can walk. The council plans to consult on one in late 2027 or 2028.

Confirmed by email from the council's dog warden, 26 October 2026.

Assistance dogs: most council dog orders and beach bans exempt assistance dogs, such as guide and hearing dogs. Check the source if you are unsure.
